Sandy Thein Naing writes fiction and essays. Her work most often explores the concepts of belonging, migration, and privilege, in particular as they pertain to experiences within pockets of the Burmese diaspora.

She has attended workshops and conferences at Tin House, Yale, and The Writer’s Grotto and was a finalist for the Kirkwood Literary Prize and the Esalen Emerging Writers’ Fellowship. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English and American Studies from Wellesley College and studied creative writing at UCLA Extension and UC Berkeley Extension. She is currently at work on a novel and a collection of short stories.

In addition to writing, Sandy has spent fifteen years working with nonprofits and startups that address issues impacting refugee and immigrant populations, K-12 education, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and civil rights.
