Sandy Thein Naing writes fiction and essays that most often explore themes pertaining to family, migration, power, and resources - especially within pockets of the Burmese diaspora.
She has attended workshops and conferences at Tin House, Yale, and The Writer’s Grotto and was a finalist for the Kirkwood Literary Prize and the Esalen Emerging Writers’ Fellowship. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English and American Studies from Wellesley College and studied creative writing at UCLA Extension and UC Berkeley Extension. She is a current student in the MFA program at Oregon State University and working on a novel and collection of short stories.
In addition to writing, Sandy has worked with various nonprofits and startups for the past fifteen years, addressing issues that impact K-12 education, refugee and immigrant populations, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and civil rights.
